Dear Colleague,
Welcome to our new subscribers and Good Monday everyone !
How are you doing today ?
Well, I hope you've got a nice inspiration from last week's
articles to get yourself going for Year 2004.
I'm sure that I'll be busy with my own projects, which I
partially revealed one of them in our previous newsletter.
What's yours for this year, my friend?
My friend, I turned 31 yesterday and I feel like
I belong to a new group of people now. It's strange because
I've never felt like this before.
Maybe I got scared by number 31 or maybe a lot of good
things are coming to me and I'm not ready for the change
yet. <smile>
Whatever it is, I'm so thankful that I'm still alive and
blessed with all the best things that happened to me.

2. ARTICLE - Balancing The Wheel Of Life

Balancing The Wheel Of Life

Have you ever done the "Wheel of Life Exercise"? It's a
favorite staple of the coaching industry. You take a
blank piece of paper, and draw a large round clock on a
page. You know, big circle, center point, arms from the
center point to the outer circle like the numbers on a
clock.
It almost looks like a big apple and rhubarb pie sliced
into 12 pieces.
How did you do? I got a 'B' in art class. I hope you
followed my wonky directions!
Each slice of the pie represents a key area of your life.
I have my coaching clients label each piece with titles
meaningful to them. Popular examples are "health, wealth,
recreation, family, relationships, spirituality,
charity, education, career, etc." Try this for yourself.
Now imaging that the center of the pie represents ZERO,
and the outer edge of the circle represents that area of
your life as a perfect TEN. You then rate each area of
your life based upon your current satisfaction level
with that area. For example, maybe your relationships are
a 6, your health is a 7, your income is a 4, your career
is a 5, your spirituality is a 8, etc.
Make a little mark on each slice to represent the score
for each area.
Then join each mark together to get a weird blobby shaped
Wheel of Life.
I may never have met you, but I'm pretty sure that you
didn't score yourself a perfect TEN in each key life
area. If you did, then send $10,000 to your
favorite 5 charities....good for you. In 15 years of
doing this I have yet to meet a perfect TEN in each area!
Obviously a Wheel Of Life that is out of balance will
crash at any speed above a slow crawl. That's why often
our lives seem so crazy the minute we start moving in any
direction quickly. It's like the proverbial shopping cart
at the grocery store...one bad wheel causes accidents!
Many of us are acutely aware that our lives are out of
balance. The big question is,"What do I do about it?"
That's where Strategic Thinking plays an important role.
It is critical that you take time each and everyday to do
nothing but just think. Here's what I do.
I get up at 7 am every morning Monday to Friday. I put on
jeans, a sweatshirt and an old baseball cap to cover my
bed head. I pop on the headphones with some relaxing
instrumental music on my cd and start walking. I walk 30
minutes away from my house, then turn around and walk
back. That's my hour walk each morning.
On the walk I focus on my breathing for 5 minutes, just
quietly waking into the day. I then do 3 minutes of
listing everything that I am grateful for. Then I
visualize my day, week, month and year for about 7
minutes. By then I have been walking 15 minutes, I am
wide awake, energized, and then I focus the next 45
minutes on Strategic Thinking.
This has worked wonders for me! I have created business
plans, new products, goals, trips, and had amazing
creative ideas on these walks. One of the patterns that I
have begun to do is to break Key Life Areas into Areas of
Improvement. I'll give you an example, Health.
For years I had no definitive strategy when it came to my
Health. I ate relatively well, exercise occasionally,
kept my waistline under 32, and was managing fairly well
with stress. With no focused goal for my health, it
pretty much coasted along. Once I started Strategic
Thinking, everything changed.
I first broke Health into sub-categories so I could focus
my improvement. I now work on Flexibility, Strength,
Cardio, Diet, and Stress Management. I found books
related to each sub-category, and began to self-educate.
I sought out the best experts in each field to learn their
strategies. Within weeks I was making significant
progress in each area. With an actual goal to shoot for
my energy levels, flexibility and strength and body fat
levels have all improved.
So here's my challenge to you. Take a minimum of 30
minutes each day at least 5 days a week just for yourself
for the next 21 days. Give yourself the gift of personal
quiet time so you can practice Strategic Thinking on all
of the important areas of your life. Separate yourself
from the masses that live from crisis to crisis in
reaction mode from dawn 'til dusk. Watch the amazing
changes unfold in your life!

Maximizing Your Pay Plan
Working Smart, Knowing Your Pay Plan and The Critical Role of
Intuition in Assessing Your Team’s Strengths

One of the biggest responsibilities we have as leaders of our
organizations is to be successful ourselves. So, we
need to capture maximum dollars out of our company’s pay plan so
we can earn as much commission at the higher levels available
along with as many bonuses from our pay plan as possible.
Depending on the plan, sometimes there are trade offs on where
it’s smartest to invest our energy and talents as our leadership
grows along with the size or our organizations. Often, instead
of solely pursuing OUR OWN personal sponsoring efforts, it’s
smarter to empower other leaders on our teams and help them grow
THEIR groups faster. Depending on our particular pay plan, that
CAN result in a better, more secure payout for us down the road.
KNOWING YOUR PAY PLAN . . .
One of the biggest mistakes so many new distributors make is
thinking they can avoid learning the details of their company’s
pay plan until “they really need to.” After all, there’s so
much new to learn, why bother? Let someone else figure it out
and teach it, right? Wrong! What are they in this business for
— just the social buzz and the wonderful experience of using
their company’s products/services? Too many adopt that casual
attitude. But hopefully, not you . . .
And not your leaders either! One of the big keys to making
serious money in this business is KNOWING your company’s Pay
Plan.
KNOWING it well enough that YOU can TEACH it! The sooner the
better – for you and for your entire team! That means you must
study it, ask probing questions of your upline leaders and your
company’s customer service people. If you DO this, the payoff
for YOU can be HUGE.
People will respect your knowledge, they’ll appreciate your
trainings (live, over the phone or in written newsletters or
online company website forums), AND YOU will have a stronger,
faster shot at actually qualifying for the rewards of the
compnay's compensation plan. Most don’t do this, and most don’t
maximize their possible potential.
If YOU DO, people will follow your leadership faster with more
dedication. Your “posture” will be elevated, so will your self
esteem, and then you will be more attractive to new prospects as
well. YOU will get stronger, develop a stronger team and earn
more money!
WHERE to INVEST YOUR ENERGY – to WORK SMART
All pay plans are driven by what’s generally termed “Business
Volume, or “BV” — the purchase of the products or services from
the company. Internal consumption drives much of that, usually,
and NEW SPONSORSHIPS (“new blood”) are a key element as well.
Unfortunately for all of us, some attrition happens — unfocused
or lazy people get distracted or discouraged, and they either
slow down or they quit. If we’ve been good about communicating
well with our teams, if we’ve provided good training and/or
urged our distributors to plug IN to all the support tools and
training resources our company offers, this natural attrition
that’s bound to still occur is often out of our control.
If we want our teams to grow and our commissions to increase,
the obvious remedy for attrition is NEW RECRUITING and
SPONSORING. If you’ve been in your company for a while, and
reached a certain comfort level with your income, maybe you’ve
slipped into “management mode” and you’re cruising along and not
doing the personal recruiting and sponsoring that you once did.
People will tend to DO what they see their leaders doing, and
even through some on our team haven’t reached your success level
yet, they may still sense that if YOU have decided to cruise,
they should too. Of course, too much “cruising” leads to no
team growth — and probably an eventual (perhaps even speedy)
withering of the team’s strength, momentum and BV production.
You’re the leader, so do some personal recruiting too; it’s
contagious!
Once you’ve got the ins and outs of your pay plan IN your head,
you’ll want to ask enough questions of those more experienced to
know what mistakes to avoid in working your plan. Where do many
people get confused or make expensive mistakes by missing
certain “Business Volume” or “BV” goals or deadlines?
INTUITION . . .
Is one of the most powerful resources any of us have. Trust
your intuition and use it wisely, and you’ll succeed faster.
It’s your “gut instinct.” Most women will trust their intuition
faster than men, but as a general rule, it’s always wise and
prosperous for all of us to trust our own intuition. Here’s why
. . .
You’re an Independent distributor, so you control your own
destiny, and within certain guidelines of your company’s pay
plan, you’re free to build your organization any way you so
choose. A strategic challenge of building is to determine where
to place new people — both yours and those sponsored by your
emerging leaders (because you want to help THEM maximize their
commissions too!).
In most pay plans, you have choices and strategies to consider.
Do you create a new leg, or put the new recruit under someone
else? Once you KNOW your PAY PLAN, you’re more likely to make
the right decision. Got some strategic variables? Use your
intuition.
FAMILIES and GROUPS OF FRIENDS . . .
It’s often smart to keep people who have RELATIONSHIPS with each
other TOGETHER in the same leg. After all, this IS a business
of relationshipping and developing people and leaders. Those
relationships can be within a group of family members, or office
friends, school friends, close neighbors, choir members, factory
workers, professionals, farmers, whatever. Synergy among close
friends and/or family works, and relationshipping can be very
powerful. Don’t split up a potentially winning team.
Now, for a huge, two sided local family -- where lots of close
siblings, aunt, uncles, etc. are interested in joining your
team, it might be smart to split them up -- maybe into the
wife's family and the husband's family. It depends on the
numbers involved, their enthusiasm, how teachable they are, how
serious they seem, etc. And it, ultimately, boils down to your
own intuition in any situation.
LOOK FOR EMERGING LEADERS
Another big responsibility and strategy to follow is to find
leaders (new ones, or those already on your team) that you can
nurture and develop. Leaders who will take this business
seriously, who will plug in and use all the great TOOLS your
company has developed which can help their businesses grow
faster and stronger. Leaders CAN be people we already know; yet
OFTEN they show up through people WE don't personally know in
the beginning. Instead, they are contacts of OTHERS who are
already on our teams -- they are friends of friends of friends.
That's networking in action.
Strong leaders inspire teams, and their legs can create rapidly
growing BV and serious sponsoring and sales momentum. That’s
exciting, and well worth your strong support! Runaway legs
don't matter -- I celebrate them. So what if there's BV
"flush?" BV flush helps a LOT of other people in your
organization get paid (as your team grows), it helps your upline
get paid, AND it helps the company stay in business and cover
all their costs.
With a "runaway" leg, I look for ways I can help honor and
support the leaders within that leg and then for ways to
strengthen the weaker legs to accelerate BV growth and my
commissions.
Feel like you can’t trust your intuition enough, at least all
the time, yet? Then ask questions — like this: “Say, Betty, I
need your help. I’m having a challenge figuring out exactly
how I can best help you achieve what you’re truly looking for
from your new business. What IS it exactly that you’re wanting
to achieve within the next 6 months? Within the next year?
(Then, let them talk, just listen carefully. If they’re being
vague or shallow, simply say: “Say more about that.” Or “So
what exactly does that mean to you?”)
The level of support you then decide to give them will be
determined by what they SAY and especially by the quality of
their ACTIONS. What are they really DOING to build their
business, and is it effective? Are new people coming onboard?
Are products/services being sold? Is their group BV growing?
Are they demonstrating any leadership? Are they worth your time
and energy, or do you need to shift your highest focus and
support elsewhere?
Trust your Intuition. Happy Business Building!
