How was your weekend, my friend?

I went back to my hometown to visit my parents. It was
refreshing to be in an environment full of trees and free of
traffic noises and pollution. My parents live about 2 hours
away from where I live. They have 7 acres of rubber trees
and a decent small house. My little brother lives with them.

By the way, some of you might not know how rubber trees look
like but I'd leave that for you to research. <smile>

I went back to check if my father would follow me back to my
house today. We (my father, my wife and me) had our blood tests
taken last Tuesday and the results will be out tomorrow. If
my father would come along with me, I would have driven him
back to my house. Yes, I could have asked him over the phone
but I was planning to see my hometown anyway.

My father has some health problems but he is trying to hide
them from me. I see him getting weak from year to year but he
is always trying to show me like nothing is so serious.

When you have diabetes, the probability of getting other
diseases is high. That's what happened to my father. He is
diabetic and has high blood pressure. I don't want his
existing problems get worse, and I hope that his blood test
will give me clues of what next steps to take.

My mom told me that a few years back, my father was admitted
to a hospital because of his diabetes (If I remember correctly)
and it got worse that my parents decided not to tell me about
it. I was in the States doing my engineering degree and they
thought that if I was informed, my studies would be affected.

Of course I was a bit upset about their decision, but I now
understand the sacrifices they were trying to make.

My friend, I do care about my parents and I'm not
shy to say that to you. Let me give all my best to take care
of them while I still have time. They have given me life and
everything they have. I'll do my part now.

The German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)
observed that all great movements went through three stages.
First they were ridiculed. Then they were violently opposed.
Then they became self evident.

I heard this statement applied to the network marketing
industry the first month of my network marketing career
in 1995. You can easily apply his statement to the Internet
too. Today the Internet is self evident to millions of
people. Yet it's also being ridiculed and violently opposed
by others. What group you fall into is simply determined by
what you know or don't know about the Internet.

When one of my distributors told me that she was going to
buy a computer to meet people, I laughed at her. In fact,
I suggested that she get psychiatric help. I clearly fell
into Schopenhauer's first category of people and was
ridiculing something I actually knew nothing about. And
I was too busy dealing with life to take the time to look
at what was waiting for me on the Internet.

When my distributor told me that she was going to meet
someone at their house that she had met on the Internet
to talk to about our business, I was almost violently
opposed to her doing it. I wanted the guy's name and phone
number. I wanted her to call me 15 minutes after she
arrived so I could assure myself she was "safe." After
all, how did she know that this person wasn't an ax murderer?

When she called me from his residence and put her new
Internet friend on the phone, I had no idea how that one
singular event would change my life forever. He turned out
to be the next door neighbor to one of the richest and most
successful businessmen in Florida and one of the nicest
people I have ever met. I was invited up to meet him the
next day. He lived on a 5 1/2 acre estate on a peninsular
overlooking a beautiful river with a water view to die for.
He was a man that had 3 computers and two of them were always
online. Over the next three weeks I marveled at how this man
just picked up the phone and used e-mail to enroll eighteen
of his friends into our business.

I was so impressed by what I saw, that I went out and
purchased my first computer. Ten months later, with my
guidance and the Internet, the young distributor that was
responsible for me going online saw her organization grow
from 25 people to over 1000. The rest is history, but as
I reflect back at this place in time, I'm reminded of how
at first I ridiculed and than violently opposed the
Internet. To be totally candid, at one time, I supposed
I also had the same feelings about network marketing.

Everyday you'll come in contact with someone that will
ridicule or violently oppose your business building activity
on the Internet. After all, network marketing is a "belly to
belly" business. When you do, simply forward them this story.
Perhaps it will be the "light bulb" going off for them and
they'll be motivated to learn what has become self evident
to millions of people and society at large. The Internet is
the future of network marketing. The sooner you learn about
it and how to use it, the more secure your future will be.

A Business which Requires No Selling?

"I want to find a business opportunity which requires no
selling." How many times have you heard that? How many times
have you said that?

I hope you answered the second question with "Never."

Let me be truthful with you here. There are only five types
of businesses on this planet:

· Raw Materials Acquisition
· Manufacturing
· Distribution
· Services
· Sales

No matter the business type you pursue, if you are the owner
of the business, then you must participate in sales. That is,
unless you begin your business with tons of money and you can
afford to hire sales people to work on your behalf.

Sure, there are millions of jobs on the planet that do not
require any type of selling. But you must remember that every
job you have ever had that did not require any form of selling
DID require someone else in the company to do so. No business
can survive without someone in the company selling the products
or services offered by the company.

The jobs that you think would be great to possess that require
no selling are in fact support jobs --- supporting those who do
the actual selling.

If your goal is truly to start your own business and you do not
want to do any selling, you have four options available to you:

· Cancel your plans to start your own business.
· Plan to take on a partner who will do your selling for you.
· Make sure you have enough start-up capital to hire a
salesperson to do your selling for you.
· Decide to overcome your fears of selling.

WEIGHING THE OPTIONS

For most of us who have harbored dreams of starting our own
businesses, the first three items above cannot be looked upon
as real options to our quandary.

For us, the only option is to OVERCOME our fear of selling.

FIVE STEPS TO OVERCOMING YOUR FEAR OF SELLING

1. DECIDE to learn how to sell.

Some people argue that sales people are born. That is not true.
Sales people have all learned their trade --- it is just that
some had learned their trade early in life as a child trying
to get their way with their parents. If at first you fail, you
must try different techniques until you finally get what you
came for. The next time your toddler is testing your patience,
remember that he/she may be trying to learn how to be a better
sales person --- to master the art of persuasion.

2. Do not be afraid to try.

As Franklin D. Roosevelt so eloquently told the American people
at his inaugural address on March 4, 1933, "the only thing we
have to fear is fear itself."

FDR was referring to the economic chaos faced by America during
the Great Depression, which was underway as President Roosevelt
came into office. Roosevelt had the American economy on his
mind as he uttered these famous words, urging Americans not
to let the economy continue to be paralyzed by the public's
fear of the economic future of their country.

3. Acquire knowledge.

While it is helpful to acquire knowledge concerning the art
of persuasion, the knowledge that will be best acquired is
knowledge of your product, service, competition and marketplace.

With knowledge comes confidence.

4. The fourth step to selling is to acquire the confidence that
will be yours when you are comfortable in the knowledge you have
acquired.

5. The fifth and final step in learning the selling process is
to be like the toddler who is trying to learn how to persuade
his parents to his wants.

You must spend time practicing your technique and trying to
devise methods to improve upon your success rate. Try, try
and try again. Once you realize that most professional sales
people --- who live and breathe sales everyday --- do not
close every sale, then you are free to fail yourself. It is
only through failure that you learn the lessons you need to
improve your sales and closing skills.

FINDING YOUR STRENGTH

To find the business opportunity that is right for you, it is
important to take the first step now --- to make the decision
to learn how to sell --- and to understand that the rest will
come to you later.

You should find strength in the knowledge that the art of
persuasion is so easy that even a child can learn how to do it.
Start your education today. It may be the only thing standing
between you and business success.
